ወደ 98 ሚሊየን የሚጠጋ ሕዝብ ባላት ኢትዮጵያ አማርኛ ብሔራዊ የሥራ ቋንቋ ነው፡፡ በቅርብ የተካሄዱ የቅኝት ጥናቶች እንደሚያሳዩት አዋቂ በሚባለው የዕድሜ ክልል ውስጥ ካለው ሕዝቧ አንድ አምስተኛ የሚሆነው የአሜሪካ ድምፅ ራዲዮ ጣቢያን (የቪኦኤን) ሥርጭቶች ያዳምጣል፡፡ ይህ ቁጥር ቪኦኤ በዓለም ዙሪያ ከሚያሠራጭባቸው ቋንቋዎች ሁሉ ጋር ሲነፃፀር ግዙፍ ከሚባሉት የአድማጭ ብዛት አንዱ ነው፡፡
